University Health Care System Oncology - Physician Assistant in Augusta, Georgia

Responsibilities

Assists University Physicians in the care of their patients. Uses physician assistant knowledge base in providing direct patient care for patients of ages: adolescent, adult, and geriatric, in the clinical setting. Activities include office visits and office procedures that may be performed in the office where the supervising physician regularly treats patients. The Physician Assistant works under the auspices of University Physicians staff in accordance with state and federal laws governing Physician Assistants. The provision of nursing care will be provided in an environment that embraces maximum participation by the staff.Demonstrates population-specific competencies (e.g., age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role.

Qualifications

EducationSuccessful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program with all the knowledge and skills normally acquired through such a program.Licensure/CertificationCurrent license in State of Georgia as Physician Assistant. BLS required-and ACLS required for the prompt care setting. Drug Enforcement Agency License required.ExperienceCompletion of hospital and unit orientation program. Ability to perform patient care at a level normally acquired through one year of Physician Assistant experience is highly desirable. At least one year Physician Office experience preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to apply professional education in a busy clinical setting.Basic level of analytical ability required in order to set priorities and coordinate patient care.Advanced level of interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with multiple personalities and levels of personnel.Ability to perform efficiently and effectively under stress.Requires frequent intense concentration/attention to detail 90% of the time to read and document, use equipment and computers, and to prioritize and provide patient care both direct and indirect.Job requires both initiative and dependability.Philosophy of health care and nursing is compatible with that of the mission of the institution.Work ethic compatible with that of the University Physicians/University Hospital management and demands of the clinic.
