This position functions as a subject matter expert in the policies, processes and procedures of the clinical laboratory as it relates to patient diagnosis and treatment monitoring, is fully trained in Clinical Laboratory Science and Clinical Pathology, and has the experience in the laboratory performing a wide variety of routine and complex laboratory procedures on all types of blood and body fluids to assist in the diagnosis and monitoring of a patient's disease. It serves as a consulting liaison between laboratory, physicians, nursing, allied health practitioners, inpatient units, and outpatient clinics. The Advanced Practitioner in Clinical Pathology will serve as a resource for information and provide clinical pathology consultations to clinicians in both patient care rounding teams, as requested by clinicians, and when deemed medically necessary for appropriate test selection and correct clinical laboratory test interpretation. It monitors clinical laboratory test orders for appropriateness, medical necessity, and correct test selection. Teaches Pathology Residents and Fellows in their Clinical Pathology training. Participate in departmental and hospital quality improvement activities, perform translational patient-outcome oriented research, and perform administrative and teaching duties as required. This position is responsible for statistical information, providing key quality indicator data, and recommendations for improvements in utilization and service delivery of clinical laboratory and pathology services. This position also assists with laboratory supervision in the core lab and specimen processing/referral services.
Doctoral degree in Clinical Laboratory Science including 1 year of clinical residency
Certification in laboratory related field per GA Rule 290-9-8 such as AMT, NCA, American Society for Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or equivalent certification is required. Must meet qualifications required by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (42CFR493.1449 and 1451).
Able to work independently in a fast paced environment, work well as a team member, show initiative and flexibility with work assignments. Manage multiple tasks at once. Detail oriented with exceptional problem solving and organizational skills. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with professional, technical, and administrative staff.
