University Health Care System Manager - Decentralized Access Services in Augusta, Georgia


Reports to Director Access Services. Ensures effective and efficient operations with quality service to all internal and external customers. Directs, coordinates, organizes, and schedules all operational personnel. Coaches and mentors staff providing opportunity for development and feedback. Ensures that all hospital and departmental policies and procedures are enforced.

Demonstrates population-specific competencies (e.g. age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role.


EducationBachelor of Arts or Science in a health or business related field required.


N/AExperienceDemonstrated knowledge of the health care industry, specifically the functions of access services (outpatient registration or admission process), patient accounts or health care reimbursement through a minimum of 7 years experience, 3 of which are in a management/supervisory role in a customer service environment.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrated knowledge of admitting, registration, financial counseling, and related financial systems and procedures.Demonstrated above average, knowledge of health care reimbursement, accounting, finance and contracting.Advanced communication and interpersonal skills necessary to communicate orally and in writing to all levels of management, to effectively supervise, guide and manage employees and to establish effective working relationships with multiple levels and departments internally and externally.Working knowledge of ICD9 & CPT coding, LMRP, and medical terminology.General knowledge and skill in use and application of mainframe and microcomputer hardware, software, and network systems as well as ability to evaluate same.Above average knowledge and ability in budget preparation, performance monitoring, and data analysis.Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.Ability to collaborate with other departments and medical staff.Demonstrated awareness of legal, professional and institutional responsibilities specifically legalities relating to Emergency Room.

Physical Demands

Sight - to read physician orders and other unit documentation.

Speech - to communicate with callers and other customers, and respond to intercom system.

Auditory - to hear patients and answer telephone.
