CB&I Mechanical CFE 1 or 2 (#5009) in Aiken, South Carolina


The Piping/Mechanical Construction Field Engineer (Construction Technical Services Specialist) 1 or 2 is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day field piping installation activities on the MOX Project. The individual in this role ensures adherence to design basis and quality requirements for all assigned pipe/mechanical and support installation work. Support for these activities include:

  • Provides technical assistance to the Piping Supervisor and Superintendent and keeps them informed on matters relating to quality and quality control
  • Performs coordination and communications with Design Engineering to resolve technical problems
  • Initiates, coordinates, and oversees the implementation of design changes
  • General coordination with multiple groups across jobsite (craft, design, QC, subcontractors, etc.)
  • Support the Piping Supervisor and Superintendent in resolving issues related to applicable piping installations and activities
  • Review of Work Packages in planning, working, and closure
  • Update Work Packages and/or create additional steps for appropriate changes
  • Initiating, reviewing, implementing, and/or dispositioning change requests such as Field Change Notices, Field Change Requests, Nonconformance Reports, Conditioned Reports, and other technical documentation
  • In-process and Final Inspections of Mechanical components and communicating the readiness for Final Inspection with QC
  • Acquiring and maintaining as-built information for pipe installations
  • Request material transfers and/or material verification from warehouses
  • Report weekly on installed piping/mechanical quantities and status
  • Performing field walk-downs and inspections to review work for conformance with design requirements, applicable codes/standards and project procedures
  • Updating schedulers/project controls of work completed
  • Review/interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and other documents
  • Observes and ensures construction practices as required for compliances of construction operations/execution with federal, state, and local codes, industry standards, company procedures, and contractual requirements
  • Achieve successful completion of assigned work responsibilities on time, within budget, schedules, and contract requirements
  • Champion the commitment to safety, security, environmental, and quality priorities and values throughout the MOX Project
  • Execute the required duties and activities with little to no technical direction
  • Review/interpret design drawings for constructability
  • Provide clarifications of drawings, specifications, and other technical documents as necessary to support Construction
  • Coordinating inspection and testing activities
  • Reviews the project schedule and works with the applicable Supervisor and Superintendent, and supports work implementation as required
  • Serve as a resource for training/mentoring colleagues with less experience

Required Qualifications:

To qualify for Construction Tech Services Specialist I:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, and 3 years experience in design , fabrication, installation or inspection in a related construction discipline OR
  • Associates Degree with 7 years of experience in Engineering, Construction Management, or other related discipline OR
  • High school Diploma or GED and 9 years of experience in Engineering, Construction Management, or other related discipline

To qualify for Construction Tech Service Specialist II:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or other related disciplines plus 5 years' experience in Engineering, Construction, design, or related discipline --preferably in the nuclear industry OR
  • Associates or Technical Degree with 9 years' experience in Engineering, Construction, design, or related discipline OR
  • High School Diploma or GED with 11 years' experience in Engineering, Construction, design, or related discipline

For both positions:

  • Capable of using basic Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of the Mechanical/Piping process
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic design drawings

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior Nuclear experience
  • Capable of using programs such as AutoCAD or MicroStation, SmartPlant, and/or Support Modeler
  • Extensive knowledge of the Mechanical/Piping Construction process
  • Working knowledge of other disciplines scopes, roles, and responsibilities
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and other Construction related rules and regulations
  • Strong math aptitude, analytical, and problem solving skills
